FAQ

Common Questions

Get answers to common questions about interactive forms, rasterization, signatures, and printing.

What does it mean to 'flatten' a PDF?
Flattening is the process of merging various layers of a PDF (such as interactive text boxes, signatures, checkmarks, and comment annotations) into a single, flat background layer. This makes the PDF read-only and locks all forms.
Can a flattened PDF be unflattened?
No. Once a PDF is flattened, the interactive fields, signatures, and text boxes are permanently converted into graphical vectors or raster images on the background layer. They cannot be converted back into editable forms.
Why should I flatten my digital signature?
Digital signatures are often placed as floating annotations. Flattening converts the signature image into part of the page content, preventing others from easily copy-pasting, deleting, or moving it.
Does flattening reduce the quality of the PDF?
No. Standard vector flattening preserves the crispness of text, lines, and logos perfectly. If you choose 'Rasterize Mode', pages are converted to images, which may slightly reduce text sharpness depending on DPI settings.
Does this tool work with password-protected files?
Yes, but you must enter the password to unlock the document first so the client-side parsing libraries can read the interactive form and annotation nodes.
