What does it mean to 'flatten' a PDF?
Flattening is the process of merging various layers of a PDF (such as interactive text boxes, signatures, checkmarks, and comment annotations) into a single, flat background layer. This makes the PDF read-only and locks all forms.
Can a flattened PDF be unflattened?
No. Once a PDF is flattened, the interactive fields, signatures, and text boxes are permanently converted into graphical vectors or raster images on the background layer. They cannot be converted back into editable forms.
